Call Me Battle

Hello?

Hi! It’s Me!  Just calling to let you know that it’s time for another round of the Call Me Battle of the Bands.

The last battle was kind of ‘meh’... but hopefully this month will be a little more exciting for you.

This month I’ve got two well-known artists and songs contending against each other.

First up on the docket is….

Steely Dan

Great song, right? Well, don’t get too comfy because another great band and song is taking them on and fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

Our second contender today is….

Sugarloaf

Who will make it to the playoffs? Cast your votes in the comments below. If you find yourself unable to leave a comment, please visit Jingle Jangle Jungle’s facebook page to leave a comment on the post that correlates with this battle.

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    4. Curious As A Cathy

    5. dIEDRE

    6. Debbie DogLady

    7. Boromax aka Ed

    8. Mike’s Ramblings

Are you a blogger and want to join in the fun with your own music battles on the 1st and 15th of each month (or only one battle a month) - reach out to Mr McCarthy to get yourself added to the list!

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 22nd of this month.

Don’t forget to also check out today’s Song of The Day!

  1. This one's actually hard, because I liked both of them, for different reasons. I vote for Sugarloaf, because it won the coin toss.

  2. Wow! I'm first here. I love both songs but I'm going with Sugarloaf because of that guitar part that makes it sexy, In my book

  3. Back when "Green Eyed Lady" was regularly on the radio, I was a big Sugarloaf fan. This song here is another good one, but not of Steely Dan caliber.

    I vote for Steely Dan.

  5. MMQE ~

I still remember Sugarloaf's 'Green-Eyed Lady' being my very favorite song in 1970. And I like 'Don't Call Us' also; especially that sly little Beatles reference they sneaked in there.

But... (yes, you knew the "but" was on its way) ...like dIEDRE wrote, 'Rikki, Don't Lose That Number' really takes me back to a different & better time. For me, it has a "goldenshadow" quality about it that I have always loved.

Good Battle, and interesting that Sugarloaf actually had a 2-0 lead right out of the chute. However, it was only a matter of time before Steely Dan caught and passed them.

  6. VOTE = Sugarloaf

Wow. Another tough decision in the BOTBs this time around. (Except mine, heheh. It's looking pretty lopsided, so far) I like both of these bands and these songs. On my list of favorite bands, I would place Steely Dan pretty well ahead of Sugarloaf. Between these two songs, though, I dug the funky vibe of the Sugarloaf tune.
